Making a Homeschool Yearbook with Hannah Carpenter

Over the last few months, we’ve followed along as artist, Instagrammer and homeschool mom Hannah Carpenter set out to create a homeschool yearbook for her children using Picaboo Yearbooks. With our no minimum order policy, yearbooks can be a reality for everyone–even homeschool students! Now that her kids have received their yearbooks in the mail, we’re excited to have Hannah back to tell us about the experience. Take it away, Hannah!

Anytime I print a photo book with pictures of the kids in it, they seem to pour over it time and time again, and our homeschool yearbook is no exception. My kids are nuts about them, as are their grandparents who each wants a copy.

Waiting until summer to create last year’s homeschool yearbook turned out to be a fantastic plan. It has given us something fun to do during the months when we aren’t quite as busy. Putting the book together was a great learning experience for the kids, teaching them about layout, copy, and computer skills. As a homeschooler, I’m always looking for fun ways to teach computer skills, and this fit the bill.

Something fun we did in our books was dedicate a full two-page spread to each of my kids. They really seemed to enjoy having that individual attention. I remember going through my yearbook as a student of public schools, and when I found my picture pop up on a random page I would get really excited. I don’t understand why it’s so fun to see yourself in print, but it just is!

Overall, I was very impressed with the whole process and quality. Before you print your book, you are sent a proof. I really appreciate that everything in the printed book we received appears just as it did in the proof. There were no weird print issues that you sometimes run across when having things printed online. The software was easy to learn and use, the turn around time was great, and the finished product was error free!

I’m so glad we chose to commemorate the year in this way. Creating a homeschool yearbook is most certainly a tradition we plan to keep and one I heavily encourage others to start!
