What’s Marketing Got To Do With It?

Marketing a school yearbook effectively requires a blend of creativity, clear communication, and reaching the right audience. Engaging students, faculty, and the school community can also be fun and collaborative.

There are many platforms where we communicate with our families during the school year—social media, text messaging, school websites, newsletters, etc. You can use all these platforms and still not be as successful as you’d like. The goal of marketing is to know not only who you are selling to, but why.  What are your goals for yearbook sales and how are you going to reach them? As your deadline approaches, you want to be able to focus more on your yearbook creation and less on the yearbook sales Here are some great tips on who to be marketing to and approaches you may not have thought of before:

Marketing To Everyone, Is Marketing To No One!

Maximize your efforts by planning ahead of time and knowing who your yearbook target audience will be, i.e., students, parents, grandparents, caregivers, faculty, and staff. Understand what each group is looking for in a yearbook and change up your marketing strategy to help target that audience.

  • What Do They Want From Their Yearbook?

    • Students: They want to be seen in the yearbook… multiple times if possible. They want a yearbook that represents them and their school. They also want a memory to look back on fondly to bring them back to that time in their lives.

    • Parents, Grandparents, And Caregivers: They want to see their child in the yearbook as well, smiling and enjoying their teachers, classmates, and events. They too love recalling milestones their child had during that time.

    • Faculty and Staff: Your school’s faculty and staff enjoy seeing each other’s accomplishments and celebrating great staff members. They also enjoy seeing their students be celebrated.
